Minecraft Legends gets a release horizon and gameplay video

Announced last June, the Minecraft Legends spin-off is shown in a new gameplay video unveiled as part of Minecraft Live last weekend.

Because the acronym RTS is scary, and it makes you think of games not really cut out for a demography ranging from 7 to 77 years old, Mojang preferred the sweet name of “action-strategy” — which consequently causes the knees to snap a little less than real-time strategy, let’s be honest. Thus, there is no question of building a small wooden hut on your favorite ledge and cooking the local sheep on a small fire in the moonlight. In Minecraft Legends, you will have to assemble your small army of mobs to go and break others, all in a big organized mess.

But inevitably, because Minecraft obliges, a large part of the gampelay of this spin off will be devoted to construction — the troopers will not only serve as cannon fodder, but also as makeshift workers, able to harvest resources and establish all kinds of infrastructure to help in the fight, be it bridges or watchtowers. Far from being a solitary pleasure, Legends wants to be as open as the game from which it draws its universe, with a large part of the presentation dedicated to cooperative play; both with the joystick and the keyboard-mouse combo. If we will still have to wait to get our hands on it to judge the depth of its gameplay, its artistic direction, it seems to us already successful, the cell shading fits perfectly with the cubes of Minecraft.

Minecraft Legends is slated for release in Spring 2023 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The title will also be available in day one on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass..
