The Witcher: Netflix announces a 4th season, but without Henry Cavill

Good and bad news at the same time? On the one hand, fans of the heroic fantasy series “The Witcher” will be delighted to learn that Netflix has renewed the series for a fourth season. On the other, it will be done without its star Henry Cavill, who is bowing out after three seasons in the skin of Geralt de Riv. His replacement is already known.

The Witcher will have a 4th season, but without Henry Cavill

On December 20, 2019, Netflix began broadcasting one of its major series: The Witcher. Adapted from the Polish literary heroic fantasy saga The Witcher, The Witcher benefits from its launch of an already worldwide popularity. Indeed, before the series, the story of The Witcher has been successfully adapted into a series of three video gamesfrom 2007.

The Witcher tells the story of the witcher Geralt of Rivia, a powerful monster-slaying mercenary, apparently deprived of human emotions. He is in the series embodied by Henry Cavill, and his fate is linked to those of the two other main characters: Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) and Ciri (Freya Allan). The first season is a success, and Netflix quickly continues on a second batch of episodes.

After the first two seasons, the third will come to summer 2023. Netflix just announced the production of a fourth seasonbut with a twist. Henry Cavill lays down his arms and will no longer play Geralt. And just to save time, Netflix has also given the name of the new role holder for this fourth season.

Henry Cavill hands over to Liam Hemsworth

Henry Cavill has a busy schedule. In particular, it will resume his role as Superman and will be in Guy Ritchie’s next film The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Projects incompatible with the long time and the remoteness of the production of The Witcher, which takes place in several European countries. The actor announced his departure from the series on Instagram, while rolling out the red carpet to his replacement: Liam Hemsworth.

My adventure as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with monsters and twists and finally I will lay down my medallion and swords for the 4th season. In my place, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth, will take over the role of the White Wolf. In the manner of the greatest of literary characters, I pass the flame with gratitude for the time spent playing Geralt, and with excitement to see Liam’s perspective on this most fascinating and nuanced man.

Liam, “good sir”, this character has wonderful depth, enjoy diving into it and see what you can find there.

It’s a great opportunity for the Australian actor and star brother Chris Hemsworth. Indeed, since his appearances in the famous saga The Hunger Games, Liam Hemsworth did not particularly stand out. The title role of The Witcher will offer him a world exhibition, and he will thus have to live up to his illustrious predecessor. Little pressure though…
