Actor Steve Toussaint, who plays Lord Corlys in the series “House of the Dragon” has been the victim of racist attacks. He wanted to respond to this outpouring of hatred.
House of the Dragon: after Game of Thrones
More than three years after stopping Game Of ThronesHBO has finally lifted the veil on its long-awaited prequel dubbed House of the Dragon. This new series focuses on the Targaryen dynasty, almost 200 years before Daenerys came into the world.
More specifically, it begins with King Viserys I (Paddy Considine) in charge of designating his heir. But the fight for the iron throne is never easy and a war of succession is not long in taking shape. The first season will take place over almost thirty yearsand will lead to what is known as “The Dance of the Dragons”, which led to the downfall of the Targaryen dynasty.
Alongside Paddy Considine, we find in the cast young actors little known to the general public, including Milly Alcock (Rhaenyra) and Fabien Frankel (Ser Criston Cole). Other more experienced actors are also present on the screen, such as Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen), Rhys Ifans (Otto Hightower) or Steve Toussaint (Lord Corlys).

Actor Steve Toussaint has recently been the target of racist attacks on social media. Affected by these hateful behavior and unacceptable, he insisted on reacting. Thus, he confided in an interview given to the magazine Men’s Health:
It seems very complicated to digest for some people. They have no problem watching a program with dragons or people with purple eyes and white hair, but rich black? It is beyond their capabilities.
Although his physical description never evokes white skin in George RR Martin’s novels, many readers imagined Lord Corlys as such, given that his descendants are from Valyria and that he has Targaryen white/blonde hair.
Despite these attacks, Steve Toussaint also wanted to salute the many supports he received:
I also had fantastic support from people who couldn’t wait to see me on the show. And even in the team, when we were shooting certain scenes, they let me know that it was good to have this representation.
The first episode of House of the Dragon aired September 22 became the pilot on most viewed in HBO history. The next nine will be available every Monday on OCS in France.
