“Grey’s Anatomy” is about to turn an important page in its history. After seventeen years of good and loyal service, Ellen Pompeo, alias Meredith Grey, will soon be leaving the series. But she will come back in the future.
Grey’s Anatomy will lose its headliner
It has now been seventeen years since Grey’s Anatomy was launched. Since all this time, the series has seen the passage of many actors and actresses. But one of them was seen in almost every episode. Namely the headliner of the show, Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo. The latter even appeared in the spin-offs also created by Shonda Rhimes, such as Station 19.

However, Meredith Grey’s on-screen presence has diminished in later seasons of Grey’s Anatomy. Last August, we even learned thatshe would only appear in eight of the twenty-two episodes of the nineteenth season, currently airing. All of this foreshadowed Pompeo’s upcoming departure from the show that made him world famous. And this departure has just materialized.
Ellen Pompeo formalizes her departure
The sixth episode of the nineteenth season of Grey’s Anatomy recently aired in the United States, and the series is currently on hiatus. It will resume on January 23. And as revealed ABC through a teaser, it is during this seventh episode that Meredith Gray will bid farewell to her colleagues. Information confirmed by his interpreter in a message posted on his Instagram account, in which Pompeo wanted to thank the fans of the series :
I am forever grateful and humbled by the love and support you all have shown me, Meredith and the show for nineteen seasons. Everything we’ve been through… none of this would have been possible without the best fans in the world. You all made this adventure so fun and iconic! I love you madly. You know the song… you know the show has to go on and I will definitely be back. With much love and gratitude.
Pompeo therefore specifies, however, thatshe will be back in the future. Fans can therefore hope that she will return in a few episodes, in the manner of Derek Shepherd, Jackson Avery or even Addison Montgomery in recent seasons. According Deadline, she will return at least for the last of the current season. And, as recalled TVLine, she had also promised last September that she would participate in the very last episode of the show. Before that, she will continue to narrate the episodes of season 19. And for fans of the actress, we can remember that Pompeo will soon be showing a new mini-series.
